01

Start with the decision

Research is more useful when the team can name the decision, design choice or knowledge gap it should inform. This anchors the scope and prevents a broad topic from becoming an unfocused study.

02

Match the method to the question

A landscape scan, survey, interview study, policy review and case study each reveal different things. Method follows the question, the context, the people whose perspectives matter and the confidence the final decision requires.

03

Plan how knowledge will travel

A technically strong report can still remain unused. Research design should include synthesis and communication: what will different audiences need, which findings require nuance and which format will help the knowledge move into practice?

Put this thinking to work

Every engagement is shaped around its context. Bring us the question, programme or environmental idea you are working with.
